Usher Ministry
“Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.” – Romans 15:7 (KJV)
The Usher Ministry at House of Wisdom – CHRIDA (HOW) welcomes everyone into the House of God
with love, kindness, and hospitality. Our ushers are often the first faces people see when they arrive,
and they help set the tone for worship through warmth, order, and care.
With a servant’s heart, our ushers are willing to serve anyone—young or old, new or returning.
They stand on the promise of Psalm 84:10, choosing gladly to serve in the house of the Lord.
Their ministry is more than giving directions; it is a ministry of welcome, peace, and support.
Who Our Ushers Are
Ushers at HOW are more than just door keepers—they are ministers of hospitality.
They intentionally avoid long conversations that may cause them to miss a handshake,
a smile, or a greeting for someone entering the sanctuary. Every person matters,
and every entrance is an opportunity to reflect the love of Christ.
An usher at HOW is:
- Friendly – ready to meet everyone with a warm smile.
- Punctual – arriving early and prepared before service begins.
- Humble – interacting with newcomers as God’s own, with respect and grace.
- Kind – generously serving all, without favoritism.
- Submissive – honoring God, His Word, and church leadership.
- Dependable – trustworthy and consistent in meeting service needs.
- Available – willing to freely do what God has called them to do.
- Dedicated – committed to the task of ushering, not just filling a position.
- Prayerful – serving from a place of prayer, sensitivity, and spiritual awareness.
Why Ushers Are Important
Ushers are vital to the life of the church. Many guests come in, sit down, and may not have anyone speak to them.
Ushers often have the first brief but meaningful opportunity to welcome, acknowledge, and guide them.
Whether it’s escorting a family to their seats, helping someone who is unsure where to go,
or quietly handling a need during service, ushers help create a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment
for worship. Their ministry supports both the spiritual flow of the service and the practical needs
of the congregation.
What Our Ushers Do
🤝 Greeters & Hosts
Ushers warmly greet members and guests, offering a handshake, smile, and welcome.
They act as the first point of contact and help people feel at home in the sanctuary.
🪑 Seating & Order
Ushers assist guests in finding seats, guide latecomers quietly into the service,
and help minimize distractions during worship, music, and the sermon.
📣 Communication & Care
Ushers are ready to assist anyone in the congregation who might need help, inform the sanctuary of urgent matters,
and support those with special needs with grace and discretion.
💝 Offering & Ministry Support
Ushers assist with receiving the offering, directing communion or special ministry lines,
and helping parents find children and youth ministries for their families.
Goals of the Usher Ministry
